But I have no experience with Brazilian jujitsu at all. I've trained in traditional Chinese martial arts and Shuai jiao.
I know people will say this is a bad idea but does anyone think it's a good idea to try?
It will be valuable experience regardless, but without any ground game, it will be difficult to do well against any opponent that has a little grappling experience.
I was at an mma tournament recently. The only takedown attempts I saw were single and double leg. It seems logical to me to focus training On stuffing those two takedowns since that is all that will probably be attempted.
The only thing I'm worried about is not knowing when to tap if I'm about to get submitted. My bjj friend said that it takes a little experience in bjj to know to tap before something breaks.
When in doubt just tap out (just ask Minotauro)
The only type of submission you need to worry about 'breaking' before tapping is a Knee bar. By the time a knee bar hurts, it's too late. If your leg gets isolated and your knee straightens-tap.
All other submissions hurt and you'll tap when the pain gets too intense. Only bad asses (with a lot of experience and a lot of pride on the line) will avoid tapping through the pain.
heelhook?

Great video!!
How many times have I heard a traditional stylist tell me with their level of "rooting," they don't need to learn how to sprawl.
