Equally interesting is how this was "erased" and glossed over in aikido and other arts - confirming that self-interest, self-aggrandizement, martial politics and guru-fever are alive and well in the East as in the West. Even moreso in traditional arts that have no valid testing format in the form of randori or rolling or competition.
