Tim, you've mentioned in the past that you're on the Paleo diet. What diet recommendations do you make to your fighters in general for good energy? Would you ever recommend that fighters cut meat almost completely put of their diets?

I was told by someone recently that I only need half of a tablespoon of meat everyday and could even survive on just tofu, veggies, and a little rice. The way he came to his tablespoon measurement was by dividing my body weight by 2.2 and then multiplying by 0.2 or something. Bin not even sure where he got this math meat eating equation from an he does bjj.

Well, when it comes to your diet and health, I"ve found it best not to listen to random people who offer advice, however well meaning. I'd recommend doing your own research with reputable sources then experimenting with your own diet.

Your friend is absolutely right though, you could survive on just tofu, veggies and rice, millions of people do, they're called "vegetarians."

I recommend basing the diet around lean meat (preferable grass finished), chicken and wild caught fish, green vegetables and fruit. But don't take my word for it either, there is plenty of good information on diet (I'd recommend starting with Pubmed).

I have done my research. He's not a random guy. I should have clarified. He's a teaches acupuncture courses and knows a lot but I feel like he's succumb to that "you have to be a vegan to be healthy" and stopped trusting his dietary advice. His assessment was based on the recent high rate of colon cancer which he attributes to diets too high in protein.

India is known as the vegetarian culture. But traditionally, in India, only priests were vegetarians. Why? Because all they did was pray. They didn't have to fight wars, work, etc. in ancient China they ate mostly grains and veggies because meat was expensive but when they got their hands on it they feasted.

I agree with your assessment. Nobody knows what causes cancer to form. If a person slept enough, exercised enough, ate tofu he could still get cancer.

I wouldn't be able to survive on just tofu. It's too bland.

Jack Lalabe said it best.

Just make sure it is gluten-free rice. It is available in some Thai restaurants...

;)

I met a cave monk in Thailand a few years ago. He wanders the jungle most of the year and spends a couple of months living in a cave near his temple. He only eats herbs and a few grains of sundried rice every day.

He's 80 and has lived that way for about 50 years. He's in great shape but doesn't have the kind of physique chicks like.

I could beat him up if I had to.

Stews and soups kick butt IMO, You have some kind of meat broth, meat, vegetables, you can add rice, and its not a super heavy meal.

Can be a bit bad on the cholesterol side though, but I always thought, that if you you maintain a healthy exercise regimen, you can eat without guilt.

Right now, I gotta be honest. I got lazy and shopped at Walmart for food last week, so im eating microwave burritos and chicken sandwiches.

Not exactly the healthiest choice, but its good when youre hungry, downside is that you feel like crap after eating heavily processed food, and you will be on and off the toilet for a while.. carcinogous preservatives and additives, etc..

If I eat healthy or unhealthy I feel fine. People that feel sick after eating junk food are people that don't usually eat it. They're not conditioned to it.

Just a guess- Timber, are you under 35?

By Timber on Saturday, May 19, 2012 - 06:59 am: Edit Post

Is 35 the age that a lot of men become weak in the digestive area and become whiny? 35 is also the age many men get married at and subsequently become pussy whipped. I am not pussy whipped yet and have no digestive issues. :-)
Hopefully never.

- not necessarily.
-But lets talk about "If I eat healthy or unhealthy I feel fine" when you're 36.

"I am not pussy whipped yet and have no digestive issues"
-you don't sound pussy whipped but you're begining to sound dick whipped.

"Hopefully never"
let's discuss that if you make it to 36.
