Lately I have noticed a lot of emphasis on the "4 big lifts" being crucial to the success of any fighter. The people pushing this view don't consider body weight exercises to be equal to deadlifting, squatting, etc.
Tim, your fighters probably do a mix of both bw and weight lifting(even though its all weight lifting) but do you notice if the barbel lifters fair better than the non barbell people?
Do the competitors here believe that you have to do the so called four big lifts in order to be successful?
Personally, I'm more of a bw guy because I don't like going to the gym. The loud gym heads and the hot women distract me too much.
Some of my guys lift, others don't. The pro MMA fighters I train and coach will lift weights a couple days a week, usually nothing too heavy.
Most of the training is body weight based, with lighter weighted apparatus.
