I'll buy some long rattan, 6'. We will cover them with foam and hockey tape or duct tape. It will be functional enough to play with.

I bet Tim would play. He likes the long staff for fighting.

Yo... like playing with the staff...
Here is my translation (unpublished) from a few years ago.
If anyone still practices only 13 staff laws - think again?

24 Staff Laws (from Ma Jun Long)
... sorry, not all tone symbols survived intact.

Jiao – tangle; - This means to draw a circle with the two ends of the staff at the same time. Lift up the front end of the staff and lower the back end together to draw a circle.
Ex. 3rd form - Golden child waves circle.

Gài - cover; - Hit down on the head of the enemy with one end of the staff.
Ex. – 26th form – Mt. Tai Shan presses down.

Bo; – poke; - Use the end of the staff to poke the enemy’s weapon (spear, sword etc.) away to the side.
Ex. – 5th form – Turn cloud to look at sun.

Shua; - brush; - Stick closely to the enemy’s weapon with the end of your staff. Aim at his thumb-web and straightly block down his weapon.
Ex. – 6th form, 1st movement – 5 skills of staff.

Tiao – stir up; - Send out your strength to one end of the staff and stir it up.
Ex. 5th form, 3rd movement – 5 skills of staff.

Zá – pound; - Hold one end of the staff and pound down the other end of staff.
Ex. 16th form, 4th movement – 5 forms staff

Lún - wheel; - Grasp the center or the end of the staff to revolve and hit with it.
Ex. – 20th form – Left & right side wheel.

Sao - sweep; - Grasp one end of the staff, squat down and sweep the whole stick crossways or slanting at the same time.
Ex. – 10th form – Wind sweeps plum blossoms.

Yún - cloud; - Hold the middle of the staff and revolve it above your head like a cloud.
Ex. – 21st form – Leopard leaps stream.

Pi; – split; - Split down the whole staff in a sudden motion.
Ex. – 11th form – Split mountain staff.

Huàng - sway; - Mix up false movements and true movements. Pretend to hit, but aim to stir up, or fake one way and hit the other.
Ex. – 13th form – Wild horse parts mane.

Liao - lift; - Lift up one end of the staff with throwing force.
Ex. – 27th form – Point at crotch and raise privates.

Lu; - stroke; - Block the approaching weapon of your enemy with your staff. Lead it aside and make your enemy lose balance.
Ex. – 16th form – 5 forms staff.

Zhan - adhere; - Stick your staff to the enemy’s weapon and halt it there. The principle is to connect, stick, follow and move around with the enemy, so he will be under your control and can’t escape. (When you are playing this form, the whole body should be engaged. The breath should be smooth like a string. The upper limbs and lower limbs should follow each other. The “hearing” ability (tingjin) should be precise; then you can handle the staff with ease.
Ex. – 18th form – Lion shakes head.

Dian – drop; - Use the end of the staff to hit the enemy’s crucial body part very suddenly (neck or temples) then withdraw the staff quickly.
Ex. – 7th form – Two dragons play with pearls.

Chan - tangle; - Use the end of the staff to wind up the enemy’s weapon tightly, then change from adhere staff to tangle staff. A good combination of adhere and tangle shows the excellent example of following movements.
Ex. – 32nd form – Fish leaps dragon’s door.

Beng – burst; - Use the front hand grasping the staff as a support. The back hand presses down the back end of the staff, making the front of the staff suddenly flip up.
Ex. – 29th form – Clever cat catches mouse.

Chao - search; - Push the back of the staff to the front or sideways.
Ex. – 30th form – Search & drop, tilted split.

Cheng & Jià – prop up & fend off; - Prop up and fend off are often played in combination. Prop up the fend off, fend off the prop up. Hold the staff outward or upward with both hands to ward off the enemy’s weapon.
Ex. – 25th form – Child prays to Buddha.

Guà - suspend; - Hold the staff with both hands, one hand at the end, the other at the middle of the staff. Then suddenly, pull back (or to the left or right side) the front end of the staff.
Ex. – 31st form – Bird goes to nest, or 16th form – 5 forms staff.

Kuà - carry; - Step out and lift knees, hold one end of the staff upright on the ground to block the weapon of the enemy.
Ex. – 34th form – calm sea with magic needle.

Feng & Bì – block & seal up; - All movements duck or open up to avoid the enemy’s weapon and stop the enemy from coming near to your body.
Ex. – 37th form – Green dragon returns to sea.

By Meynard Ancheta on Friday, October 07, 2005 - 12:46 pm: Edit Post

Krabi Krabong is the Thai version of Kali. Literally, Krabi Krabong translates to stick and sword, but nowadays it's applied to the whole armed combat arts of Thailand.

Mui Thai and Krabi Krabong, are those the new code words for full body Thai massage?
I'm headed to India for 2 months of back-packing. Maybe I'll get a chance to see some Indian wrestling. Anyone interested in meeting me there?
