I figured this would be the best place to ask this question because of the type of teaching that goes on at Shenwu.
I feel that mixing things up are essential in becoming a well rounded fighter. Limiting yourself is never good in a fight so its good to try to have all your basis covered.
Anyway, I have been training Xingyi for 4 months now, did long fist 4 months prior and I am thinking about really mixing things up.
I am really considering joing a school that teaches Judo, BJJ and wrestling. I figure the best way to learn to stop these guys is to train with them. However, Xingy will be my main focus.
Just wondering if you guys think I should get a better foundation in Xingyi first or go ahead and mix it up?
Also, how hard is it to integrate these arts?
Luckily the BJJ emphasis that if you are using 20% of your muscle power chances are you are doing the technique wrong.
I look forward to your replies.
Peace
Tim
PS- Tim, good job on your website and the way you run you school. You seem to be open minded and produce students that have the same mentality. Nice to see someone in IMA that doesn't just limit themselves to IMA.
Hi Tim,
I'd advise starting some grappling training as soon as possible.
Tim,
I am stongly considering starting here soon. What do you think about Judo. Supplmenting my training with that as well?
Peace
Tim
I suppose Judo is OK if you like throwing, sweeping, grappling, pinning and submission wrestling...
Judo is great.
Which would be more valuable - Judo or JuJitsu?
Hey Tim (The H),
When are you coming to shen wu? I need another body to practice judo w/on Sat. Will you be at open mat?
Who says there are no other people willing to play Judo on Saturday.
You just never asked or were afraid to ask.
I like playing judo im in to if it's ok
Mkay Meynard. Will you play w/me?
Abdullah,
If I ever make out that way trust me I will have no problem playing Judo or whatever. The only problem is I am in Texas. Don't hold that against me. lol
I do plan to come out that way to visit Shenwu and touch hands with some of you guys. Just not sure when that will be and I need to train ALOT more.
Peace
Tim (the H) lol
Tim the H,
What part of Texas do you live in? I'm from New Mexico.
I'll play w/you too Ansari. It'll be a Filippino tag-team.
Maybe we could get the Extreme Freeze Tag thing going...I'll bring my sack of wrenches
I don't think you can handle a Filipino tag team. You've got to bring in a masked Mexican wrestler to even the odds.
"I don't think you can handle a Filipino tag
team."
Something about that sentence just doesn't sound right. lol
Abdullah, I am in good ole Dallas, TX!
Thanks for the info guys!
Peace
Tim
Yeah,
I think I'll take my sack of wrenches, wrestling mask, ass-less chaps, and go home.
must you guys turn everything into a joke!
Another question for Tim and others. Do you think that Judo would be a nice addition to my BJJ/Greco-roman wrestling and xingyi training?
Seems Judo is mainly trained with the Gi and I want to make it realistic as possible.
Dont know if Judo would help my xingyi or not?
Peace
Tim H
I've had people tell me that the basic gripping techniques in judo were "too complicated" for bjj.
Having a good grip on your opponent means that you can control their range of motion/movement. You should also be able to throw from various grips. It'll make you that much more of a threat.
If you get close enough to your opponent, the only option left to them is to try and throw you before they hit the ground. Provided you keep your alignments and they don't get under your center of gravity.
All forms of grappling have something to offer. In judo, we sometimes play sumo wrestling to change things up. I saw some russians use their sambo throws to great effect in a judo tournament last weekend.
ive never studied xingyi, ive read a few books but thats it. But i do know that xingyi is an internal martial art, also, ive been studying judo for a while and i strongly believe that the internal principles that are contained within xingyi, can also be used in judo. Some people say that judo is a hard, external art, well it can be but only if you make it that way, its really based on flowing throws and flowing grapples, and when done right, it is a gentle, effortless fighting art. Give it a shot.
What part of xingyi am I supposed to use in JUDO, the inside part, the punches, kicks
or the book reading part?
Aww! hell just give me the shot
I could use a drink after reading this rediculous thread
