Hey Tim:

From the variety of Internal Styles you have practiced, which one in your opinion has the lowest stance? Xingyi, Bagua, various style of Tai Chi, etc.

Any thoughts on fighting with a low stance?

It all depends on the particular style. In general, Xingyiquan forms are not done particularly low, except for a few movements.

Some styles of Baguazhang will walk the circle in a low crouch, and some styles of Taijiquan advocate practicing in low stances for conditioning purposes.

When actually fighting, you stand relatively upright, only dropping low to defend against certain attacks (sprawling to stop a shot for example) or form specific attacks (shooting for th legs...).

Thanx for the reply Tim. What do you think about southern kung fu styles like Hungar that fight in a low crouch? Do you see this type of fighting style as purely an "external" martial arts thing? Or is there a validity to this type of approach in Internal martial arts.

P.S. I finally got around to registering for the site. I had trouble before, because I was using Mozilla Firefox and was able to register now using Internet Explorer.
