My wife was very impressed with the chinese original of this book, which is unusual for her, usually she thinks most training manuals are "vague" and or "confusing". So Tong Zhong Yi's¡]Êc©¾¸q¡^book as translated by Tim (who my wife also speaks highly of--as a fellow translator) should be an outstanding piece of work.

I look forward to it.

take care,
Brian

Tim
You may have covered this before (if you did I couldnt find it) but how much crossover is there between Shuai Jiao and Judo . I am asking because having trained a little bit of Shuai Jiao and having become reasonably proficient in the 3-4 moves I was shown I would like to keep it up . The only grappling I could find in my area is Judo.
I release that grappling is grappling and that there is no ground game in the SJ I was shown but apart from that they shouldnt be a million miles apart in application should they ?

Hi Garrett,
Do a search for Judo Shuai Jiao, look in particular at thread #1.

I think you'll find many of the throws similar.

Tim, will there possibly be any kind of accompanying video for this book like Xing Yi Nei Gong?

I'm sure people are hoping for a video on Sun Taiji, still and that's been a few years.

Troy,
No video, it's a translation of a classic.

Damn. Thanks, any ways Tim. I look forward to the translation. I'd like to get down one night and train with you guys. Maybe I could manage one night per month until I either start making more money or gas prices go down.

Take it easy, and happy training.

I got the book today.
It must of sat in my mailbox from yesterday while I was watching the Ultimate Fighter Finale.
This book is fantastic.
Tim you never cease to amaze, you truly are an incredible master of our generation. You consistantly over time show knowledge, ability, and talent with a depth and maturity of understanding rarely seen even among masters and champions.
I plan to see you Thursday the 10th and have my edition signed.
My wife is wondering if your going to come out with a Chinese version?
Just kidding LOL
:-) JAMIE

Is the book from Amazon the one with the spiral binding, or is it a conventional binding?

By Jamie on Tuesday, November 08, 2005 - 12:20 am: Edit Post

Mine has a regular binding
no spiral

Tim,

While looking through the chinese wrestling book i noticed the body stance they started off with in there match (sitting low and back, back straight, head foreward). A lot of times in BJJ I know we're going to the ground, so rather than standing up right all the time we'll grab the gi sleeve and label and end up in a similar position.

What from your training in traditional chinese martial arts having you taken and applied into your BJJ training.
And are there any similarities in stand up techniques or concepts between the BJJ takedowns and Chinese wrestling/throwing techniques?

Tim,

You didn't have to publish this book, but thanks for doing it. There is a very martial arts "spirit" presented. Look at that hard ground - tough martial arts.
