If you wanted to learn to use the traits of your style striking wise during sparring what would be the beat way to do it?

For example, let's focus on hsing I. The five elements are representative of different energies but they are also specific strikes. Would it be useful for me to just strike with the 5 elements while my opponent does whatever.

People are always saying to play your game and dont play the opponents strengths or you'll lose. I'm wondering if people mean specifically the strikes/traps from the forms or play to your specific strengths. I should wrestle if Im good at that, etc. Or maybe both.

I have not been able to get a clear answer from my teachers.

In general, a fighter will use strategies and techniques that play to his physical strengths, technical attributes and also his personality.

These strategies and techniques should be included in whichever system the fighter studies. For example, it would be difficult to rely on wrestling if you only box.

For sport fights, rules and limitations will necessitate the fighter adjusting his game to the rules. For "self-defense," it is necessary to have a well rounded grasp of free movement, clinch and ground fighting, as well as a strategy based primarily on escape.
