I dislike finger jabs as I find them to be cumbersome.

I do not know what you mean by cumbersome.

There are some finger strikes in Yang Style. They should be directed at softer targets such as the throat. If you are not confident that your fingers are strong enough, fold them at the second knuckle & use "ginger fist".

Striking with the fingers is IMHO higher level kind of fighting.
