Hi
A question to Tim
When doing the power exercises from the Sun - dvd
you say that one should do the first exercise - the bodyshaking - a cuple of minutes - should one do the other exercises just as long so you would have like 25 - 30 minutes to warm -up before you do anything else?
Hi Tobbe,
There's no set time on how long you should do the Power Exercises, I recommend doing any particular exercise until you feel the movement is going smoothly and there is a natural rhythm without any restrictive tension.
So, you may do some exercises for quite a while and others for only a minute or so.
If I had to give an "average" time for a warm up, I'd say a minimum of about 10 minutes to 20 minutes in general. Of course, it's fine (and often very beneficial) to spend much more time on the movements if you feel like it.
Ok - Thanks a bunch Tim
I like to mix the exercises from sun tai ji and the basic zhao bao tai ji exercises. They provide a pretty good basic workout especially the zhao bao stuff.
I like the sun exercises because they are very qi gong like and provide a great warm up and warm down. They are good to show people who like the softer more feel good side of tai ji.
The zhao bao exercises are a good leg/core workout. Having to stay in the low horse stance like position while doing those weird squats has given me a stronger base to work off of. I'm more "rooted".
Tim, you should put out a zhao bao tai ji DVD set. Ever considered it? Most people I demo the exercises to dismiss them as mere workout exercises. I think any tai ji person would benefit from zb tai ji.
Whenever you come to New York again I'm looking forward to have more private lessons.
Thanks for the idea Timber, I've never really thought about putting out any material on the ZB style.
Many of the exercises may be a little too difficult for average practitioners.
