Lift hands and white swans

Tim's Discussion Board: Tai Ji Quan : Lift hands and white swans

I was wondering what folks thought the combat applications were for the Sun style movements of:

Lift hands and step up, which is the 7th movement (at least as they are numbered in Suns book) and

White Swan Cools its Wings, which is the next one, the 8th.

And as a historical/language question, do the Chinese lump swans and cranes together as one creature? Normally isn't the crane the sidekick of the Daoist immortals, although swans/geese would be a good martial image too. I was actually attacked by a swan one time. No fooling, they can be mean motherf**kers.

Take care,

brian,

there is no one size fit all application. each person will have various interpretaion based on skill, size and athletic capability.
one may parry and hit carotid, chin, shanzhong or perhaps, to jam the opponent and push sideways.

WCSW maybe a transitionig movement or setup to above. the movement appears empty but it may lead in to other applications.
