Tim:
Is there a Taiji style that you know that gravitates more towards throwing wrestling?
I know that Taiji is like 90% wrestling in general. I used to do Taijiquan, and right now I'm starting to reignite my interest in it while I am doing kickboxing and BJJ. The kickboxing works on the striking and the BJJ works on the ground skills, but I have nothing really to work on my stand-up wrestling and takedowns.
Most Tai Chi styles offer alot of throwing, but if you want alot of throwing... go for Chen style, there is alot of knock downs in the system.
Thanks Rich.
the Wu style has many throws and takedowns in it also - eg Single leg sweeps the Lotus, Step back to repulse Monkey, White crane flaps its wings; there are several others.
Hi Troy,
I would agree with eddie eagleclaw about Wu Style. It is a "medium frame" style (unlike the larger frame Yang and Chen). Because of this, more of the emphasis is on subtle core movements that happen once you are connected to an opponent. Wu has the most specific and extensive pushing hands curriculum as well. Because of these factors it is particularly well suited for throwing, and unbalancing at medium to close range.
I have written an extensive overview article on "Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan As A Martial Art" on my website:

I would welcome any feedback on it.
