I think my teacher is one of those that do not like to spout theories, so some students look elsewhere for more wordy instructions.

The tailbone will straighen as the lower back, buttocks and thighs become more soft but trying to force it into this position is ridiculous and has zero health benefits and is liable to create even more tension. In fact it just adds to the bad habits you are trying to get rid of.Like Tim,my teacher trained with Sun Jianyun and she never mentioned anything about tucking the butt or collapsing the chest.

I believe it is a mis-interpetation of the classics. The peritoneum is lifted is far more internal like a kegal exercise that give some stability to the pelvis. Something often gets lost in translations. It make no sense to straiten the lumbar curve, this takes your spine out of it natural position and so does concaving in the chest. I have had many teacher that have instructed me to over tuck my chin and butt and concave my chest. It did not work for me at all for any reason. I followed my 99 year old Tai Chi teachers instruction and Tim's advice and my form became much more natural and relaxed I strained less muscles during practice and my spirit and mind was lifted and set free from the constraints of stupidity.

What's up Jamie?

I'd add that Jamie's Taijiquan teacher, when I met him a few years ago (when he was in his early 90's) had perfect posture.

Good to hear from you Jamie.

Hey Dudes.
So nice to have time to get back on the discussion board. I am in Djibouti Africa serving in Operation Enduring Freedom, with the Navy ( I needed to salvage that retirement). I started a Camp Lemonneir Tai Chi Club on facebook if any body wants to join. But if know me I do not take that seriously- I am teaching the 24 step for fun and free. I have a pic on there from the one I did in Kandahar Afghanistan in 2011-2012.

Mr. Abraham Liu Chen-Huan is alive and okay at 99 living in Laguna Woods. He did not come to my last good bye BBQ, he did for the one before. This time he was too busy. I guess at 99 one has got to prioritize.

I bought the Sun Style DVD set because the book wasn't really getting me motivated. The DVD set is most excellent. I have really wanted to learn the Tradition Sun Style Form since I met Tim but have never had a chance to commit the time and effort, but out here I think I will.
I saw the posted link to the You Tube of Sean and that is very motivating, and what a good job making a video too, not as easy as one might think- very cool job.
I think Sean might be an enthusiastic overachiever that is very talented. It is taking me two weeks to get through the warm-ups.

I am taking it easy
I look forward to getting a good idea of this form and getting it finished with some private lesson by Tim when I get back.

The older I get and the more I read and watch Tim the more I believe he is a treasure trove of knowledge, experience, talent, application able and wise. MPO is he is the premier Internal Martial Artist of our genreration, certainly for Southern California. I have been a bit foolish not making more effort to get some training from him being that he is only a hundred or so miles away.

Oh I heard Tai Chi BOB died on New Years day 2010 from complications of Colon Cancer so I guess he won't be posting anymore.

Congradulations on ACE Jui-Jitsu it appears phenomenally sucessful from what I see on FB.

I have had a injury that is preventing me from getting beat up in those type classes but hey maybe by the time I get back I will be healed up enough to get hurt again.

I hope so.

That is my longest post ever but it has been a few years.

with brotherly love and all my best intentions

Jamie

I'm sorry to hear about Tai Chi Bob. That must have been a hell of a canker sore to take him out like that.

It was Colon Cancer; not Colon Canker.
Butt either way a real pain in the ass.
