Tim,

In your book it mentions using intention to lift the anus during the first move of the form.Should the anus be lifted during the following moves. My own teacher, who is a direct disciple of Sun Jian Yun,hasn't mentioned this but he has told me of all the other requirements mentioned in the book.I was wondering if Sun Jianyun emphasised this requirement.

I think maybe lifting the anus is a translation misunderstanding, I'm not saying Tim's not translated correctly.
In some qiqongs lifting the anus is taught specificallys (as in Mantak Chia's teachings) it's a qigong thing but no good for practical usage for self defence, disagree ? Ok for form practice. Maybe it refers to correct alignment ?

Still disagree? Try this test... if your squeezing the sphincter like some qiqong requires it for maybe a qiqong useage but... try this... push hands in a competitive manner then again in a competitive mannger but with lifting the anus as required in some qigongs as described above... on this usage of lifting the anus your more easy to uproot, it's affecting you for sure.

Maybe lifting the anus has something to do with correct postural alignment, as in tuck and suck on the hips etc., maybe a translation thingamajig

Kind Regards

Jay

One is not actually lifting it but it is similar to PC exercise that women do to tighten that area! Any way, the male version is done with using the anal spincter. Also good for all sexes!

Please do not laugh! hehe

I never heard Sun Jianyun or her students mention lifting the anus. I don't recommend it either.

Very often the reference to lifting the "anus" in Chinese MA literature should be viewed in the context of a slight lift in the lower abdomen with the lifting of the chest. The guideline is to prevent people from slumping and protruding their abdomen. It is less about squeezing the ass shut.

Are you sure, Tim? I thought it was refering to lifting the opponent's anus. It's a great way to get break their attention.

Hi Bob

Joking aside there is a Shuai Jiao technique where your hand comes from behind and under their ass between their legs, in then pulls against the genital region back and up and the other hand cuts/pushes across the back/neck forward and down or spriralling, similar moves where hand scoopes down and under the genital region are shown in pages 76/131/134/145/150 of Master Liang Shou-Yu and Tai D.Ngo excellent book on Chinese Fast Wrestling for Fighting.

BTW how do you approach seriously training or teaching these techniques ?

On a humerous note the counter to these throws is shown on page 27 figure 2-30. ...Sorry Master Liang..

Seriously, I teach my students well enough so they don't have to carry around a book, so that when they are in a fight, they can flip to pages and view techniques and their counters.

Sheesh.

You asked: BTW how do you approach seriously training or teaching these techniques ?

First throw that silly book away after ripping it apart cover to cover- this will enhance your grip strength immensely (save page 134 for later)

then go to a Judo class and ask if you can show them your Shuai Jiao defense against Kata Garuma by using Usiro-geri (pg 27 figure 2-30)
Then just so they know that your a serious student interested in training and teaching these techniques
Tell them you would like to demonstrate the Shuai Jiao technique of INNO-CHIMPO WAZA
show them page 134. To be very clear.
This will enhance your training program very well, and even MORE if you ask to demonstrate on the senior white belts- the white belts that have red stripes on them.
They are always the most receptive group for these new and exciting throws, something they can share and impress others with.
Good Luck
let me know how it goes
