Not necessarily.

Tim,
How would you describe the differences and similarities between these two styles and their more orthodox predecesors?

By camilyon on Sunday, January 29, 2006 - 06:53 pm: Edit Post

Thanks tim. does knowledge of the other arts make one's skill in these others better?

By Shane on Monday, January 30, 2006 - 01:10 pm: Edit Post

could knowledge of any art lessen one's skill in another?

"How would you describe the differences and similarities between these two styles and their more orthodox predecesors?"
That's a good question. But, that could be a thesis.
Poor Tim.

Sun style Taijiquan is closer (force generation-wise) to Xingyiquan.

Chen Pan Ling style Taijiquan is very close to Yang style Taijiquan.

Now all I need is a title, and my thesis is ready for submission.

Sun style has quite a bit of bagua in it.

Actually I was hoping for a little more clarification. So no Wu or Chen? And which Yang? Or doesn't it matter? Or care?

Buddy,

the way to get more clarification is to ask a more specific question.

I used to 'date' a girl named Claire. Sometimes Clairification was down right dangerous.

well i guess that depends on how many other people she's clairified.

she was black, so I called her my "Chocolaty Claire".

I really envy you if you have this choice in training. I will take the gems that I can get in my current locale.

does Sun style Taijiquan have all ten palm changes and the circle walking of his baguazhang? And are all the internal energies of his Xingyiquan present?

By Harry Milner (Unregistered Guest) on Sunday, February 05, 2006 - 01:35 am: Edit Post

camilyon, palm changes can be seen in the forms, an essence of circle walking can be found in the sword form, and the answer to your third question I would say yes.

I've heard about baguazhang practitioners having exceptionally fast footwork, able to get behind opponents very, very quickly. Can one learn this from Sun Lu Tang, Chen Pan Ling or Fu Zhen Song styles of Taijiquan?

Sun Style isn't called the Quick Agile Stepping Open and Closed system of Tai Chi for nothing...

Is Chen Pan Ling's Taijiquan closer to Old Yang or "Yang Family"?
