Yesterday the IFBJJ held the "No Gi World Championships" of submission grappling, the premier event of its kind.
My top student, Matt Hwang won his brown belt division beating some extremely tough competition, without giving up a single point. Matt will be the first to receive a black belt in BJJ from me next month, after 10 years of hard training, I couldn't be prouder.
My partners Asa Fuller and Chris Thue, owners of the Ace Jiu JItsu Academy also got gold medals.
Congratulations to the three new world champs!
Props to Matt too for intervening in an assault a few weeks ago. A man was beating his girlfriend in the street outside Matt's place of business. Matt stopped the assault by choking the man unconscious then pinned him until the police arrived.
Winning a world championship in superior fashion and fighting crime? Sounds like a superhero to me.
Congrats!
