Pass sitting up guard?

Tim's Discussion Board: Jiu Jitsu/Grappling/Ground Fighting : Pass sitting up guard?

Tim,

At the University judo club I attend, we have been blessed by having the All Asian Judo champion co-teach our classes. He's getting another Doctorate degree from the university. I've been taking privates with him. He's excellent at teaching Judo, even with a lack of strong English.
Problem:When he does newaza he goes to the sitting up guard and just chokes everyone out with a cross choke. I've invited some of the BJJ guys over and we all are use to passing the sitting up guard standing, but we can't stand during judo newaza. Now, I haven't rolled with him yet, but when I do, I like to know what strategy can I use to pass his guard without standing and avoid his cross choke.
Is it possible?

I actually have a pass I use specifically for passing the BF guard or sitting guard I all the "Ghost Pass," it's simple enough to do, but a little too complicated to explain in text.

The fundamental idea is to put the opponent on his back with a cross ankle pick (pulling up inside the opponent's right ankle with your right hand for example), I actually use a palm outward grip but variations can be done with the regular inside ankle grip.

As you are grabbing the ankle, your free hand is used to keep the opponent at arm's length (pushing his chest for example) so he doesn't get a deep collar grip. Pull the opponent's leg across your body to the outside of your right hip then quickly close up the space posting your right knee up between the opponent's legs (his right foot will be outside your right hip).

Look for sleeve control on his right arm with your left and pull him to your left onto his back as you pass to his right side.

Hope you can visualize the pass from the text.

I can. It's like an arm drag with the legs. Thanks!

I am always amazed at Tims ability to explain techniques with text...
