Tim's Discussion Board: Jiu Jitsu/Grappling/Ground Fighting : Why BJJ say that fights usually end up on the ground?: Archive through May 28, 2004

What was the question? ? ? I have to wade through all the B.S. to find the original question.

Rumbrae,
I think the fundamental problem you have in understanding the answers you've received (especially by Tactical Grappler, who has had the patience not only to explain what really happens from the point of view of someone that deals with real street violence everyday, but has also given you detailed information on the sources of the stats he uses) is that you are not looking for the "truth," but like so many others you're looking for anything that will help you confirm your own biases.

You should get a copy of "World's Wildest Street Fights" so you can see what street fights actually look like.

at one time I wanted my tomb stone to read:
"I TOLD you I was SICK"

But now it must read: "Sadly, it requires a certain amount of common sense to understand that Roberto Numero Dos is no more" You can't walk away from that one without being affected.

For all the problems America has- I thank the pegan gods our Police carry firearms. Read any of Rumbre's posts to see what happens went a runt grows up in a country where Bobby only carries a stick.

Tim,

I have never stated a personal bias on this thread, you did. I asked for evidence on your bias and you can't provide any to support it.

TG's stats don't support your bias either. You can't read - I agreed with TG but not 100%, and, there is nothing wrong with that.

Simple as that.

Stop conniving.

you dweb! Tim never stated that you stated personal bias.

it takes a nut to know a nut- and you, sir, are a nut. You do not comprehend what you read. I think you are just trolling- posting drivel just to illicit response simply to see if you can get others riled up. You can't be serious. There is now way you do not understand this BY NOW- you must either be joking or irretriveably stupid.

This can't be the first time you've heard this. And it is by no means a coicedince.

Aside from statistics, we all have our own perception of how things happen. My perception is that 100% of physical confontations are 100% physical, whether it be a shove, a punch, a takedown, a stabbing, etc. The bottom line is that a person should be open minded to the idea that if you can't fight standing and on the ground, you are not a complete fighter and you cannot completely defend yourself against someone that is.

Rumbrae,

Aren't you the guy who suggested throwing broken glass on the mat during a combat sports event to see if athletes foolish enough to study ground fighting would still think it was a good idea to go to the ground?

You're right, no bias there.

Off topic TG said most shootings happen at grappling range is that just in America. I thought the point of having a gun was that you did not have to stand right next to the person you were trying to butcher. Otherwise why not use a knife or sword. Why was the gun invented in the first place. This does stink of BS. I am not going to say I have been involved in a shooting first hand, however I have seen the aftermath of a couple. Police cordoning off the area etc. the area is always large meaning that the shooting happened within a 20 foot radius and the guy who was shot was in his car (or what was left of it). So TG are you saying the man with the shooter was trying to grapple with the car when it went off. Also Tim I have a freind who is a solicitor who works for the crown. He often shows me CCTV footage of fights that happen and we both have a giggle about how slow and uncoordinated it is. We both do Wing chun. I have seen about 50 tapes only 20% go to ground and the majority of this is as a trip or fall over pavement/lamp post etc. the other person rarly goes down normally stands over them and kicks them. There are my stats.

Will ford,
Just read the rest of the archive thread. About some of the places I have lived and streets I have walked down. You learn a very important lesson about life. You either love life or you do not. If you do you keep yourself to yourself and do not put it about that you are the man. You do not get offended when a gang of youths try to rile you. or push in front of you at the local shop. You remain calm and do not make a big scene. guys like you are so eager to test your skills for real, because you have never been involved in a serious altercation. You want to know what it would be like you talk about it on the internet, you imagine how it would go and what you would do. Hope upon hope that it stays in your imagination and nothing happens for real. Training helps but against a knife or gun or multiple opponents you will be fighting for your life. You may survive the attack but you will never be the same again. I have had freinds who have gone close to the wire and comeback after. They are not the same people. With your attitude on some of the streets I have lived on you would be in serious danger of losing your life. I post this not to embarass you and I am not questioning your MA skills but be careful do not look for touble because when it comes it will not be like you imagined it.

You've been warned Willard. Stay away from those gang of youths.

But, if they are a gang of hot young chicks by all means dive into them.

Qui chu ji,

Willard Ford does not look for fights. People (young punks) come looking for him to test their skills against him. They go home with their tails between their legs like whipped dogs. Willard has no need to prove himself in streetfights against "amateurs."

Yeah Qui...take that you bitch!

By qui chu ji (Unregistered Guest) on Thursday, May 20, 2004 - 04:38 am: Edit Post

this aint the flame room will. Do not respond by swearing try to string a couple of coherent sentances together. Koojo said you regually go up against skinny one armed gangbanger who are strung out on crack or young punks as he calls them. what is your win ratio again. must be right up there with the gracies.

By koojo (Unregistered Guest) on Thursday, May 20, 2004 - 02:43 pm: Edit Post

Qui, don't misquote me. I never said Will fights skinny one armed gang banger strung out on crack. I said he doesn't have to prove himself by picking street fights against untrained amateurs. People who think they are good fighters (with obvious training) come looking for him and get their asses kicked. Qui, you obviously train in martial arts. I invite you to come to Shenwu anytime so you can spar with Tim, Glen,Willard or Meynard and see how good they are.

By Meynard on Thursday, May 20, 2004 - 03:26 pm: Edit Post

Qui would get spanked. Personally it would be funny to watch koojo maul him.

Qui, the only grappling most of these guys do is by thereselves at nigh alone in bed - don't pay any attention to them

By koojo (Unregistered Guest) on Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 07:08 pm: Edit Post

Wholesale, why don't you come down to Shenwu academy to see how we really train. Don't make stupid coments, it really shows your ignorance.

I might have a good scrap with koojo he sounds like a man who knows his stuff. You uncle meynard would be a different story. I would KO your ass inside of 10 seconds. Old timer.
