Beautiful counters.
Cool, too risky for my taste though.. Ive seen someone break their elbow trying to do something like that.
I heard a story about a judo guy who did this with his neck. He ended up breaking it, is now paralyzed from the head down Chriatopher Reeves style, and the judo club ended shortly after.
Timber,
Yes, I agree, it is not traditional judo, im pretty sure kano himself wouldve been impressed but would not have embraced these type of techniques.
You are taught breakfalls in judo for a reason, im sure they can teach you acrobatic escapes, but then, that opens up a whole new world of dangers.
If you feel like youre gonna go over, just go over, and breakfall, IMO. That is the way of the sport.. And its that way for a reason, imo.
Once the rule is made you lose if you're thrown, the wheels start turning...
I've heard of that rule too. You don't lose unless you fall on your back or you actually breakfall instead of rolling out of it.
Why wouldn't judo people do other things like work on their base, have lower stances, etc. It seems in the videos I've seen that they relish flying trough the air and then rolling/cartwheeling to not lose. "Hey! We lose when if we land cleanly so let's do fantastic spinning cartwheel."
Robert, you would probably know the answer to this. I noticed something similar about bjj people. In this one competition during the mma(striking and grappling combined) they barely tried to avoid getting taken down. One guy would shoot and the other guy would just fall and then they'd be rolling with each other. Maybe this is safer than trading blows but I still don't understand the mentality of just letting it happen.
NOOOO CANT BE THROWN!!!!
*super backflip cartwheel
YESSSS!!!!!
