Any news yet from Tim and Glen?
Tim,
I just heard from Meynard that you hurt your previously injured ankle and had to quit in the first round. I'm sure you're pissed as hell. Sorry to hear the bad news. I'm sure it's difficult to take given the long trip down south. I popped my knee yesterday as well...in a sympathetic gesture of solidarity. Come home quick and safe and you can beat the crap out of me to take the edge off. Hope you feel better soon.
Cheers,
Willard
Sorry to hear about the injury Tim! try to enjoy the rest of your trip. We want some stories. hears to a quick recovery (Tim & Willard)
Any other results?
I hurt my ankle in the finals of my division. It was a beautiful fight until my opponent went to set up a toe hold as he was trying to pass my guard, he barely got a grip and my ligament tore like paper. I had dislocated that ankle three weeks before the tournament and it was weak.
I saw at least three fighters carried off the mats on stretchers, at least I was able to get to the medic on my own.
That's the way it goes sometimes. I got the silver medal.
Will,
Sorry to hear about your knee. I appreciate the gesture though.
Glen lost to a fourth degree BB by two points.
Cleber lost but four of his students took Gold.
Hi Tim,
Congratulations on your silver, condolences on your ligament. Just wanted to say it was so nice to finally meet you earlier this month. Sorry I didn't spend more time talking with you--was sort of preoccupied and headless-chickenish. Hope to see you again soon. (And best wishes for your ankle's full recovery.)
Beth
Thanks Beth,
I had a great time at the wedding. You guys need to come out and stay with us for a while (it never rains).
Hi Tim,
Would you mind sharing with us a bit about your trip and the caliber of fighters you found in Brazil ??
Thanks...
Just Curious,
The fighters I saw were the best in the world in their respective divisions. Foreign (non-Brazilian) fighters also did very well.
In the academies I visisted (Gracie Barra, Gracie Humaita and De La Riva's academy) there was great attention payed to exact technique, and the fighters sparred continuously for extended periods of time. Many serious students in Brazilian academies will train three times a day.
Wow, how long is each session, and do they have to work?
Kenneth,
Sessions were about an hour and a half to two hours.
We couldn't figure out how most people had so much time either (the pros are sponsored).
Silver in the worlds biggest BJJ tourniment, not to shabby!!!!
