There is a name for internal martial arts principles applied to ground fighting, it's called "Jiu Jitsu."
does jiu jitsu apply to no gi as well or is that submission grappling?
Submissions grappling is any style of grappling (that included submissions) without a gi, including Jiu Jitsu.
LOL!
jiu jitsu is a concept by which we measure our pain.
hi tim,
is there a chinese system of groundfighting? the only thing i heard of was dog fighting, but i don't know anything about it so can't attest to whether it's a groundfighting system like jiu jitsu or just another variation of shuai jiao.
Mozart,
There is relatively little ground fighting in Chinese martial arts. Dog Boxing is rare Southern Shaolin style. The style has much more ground work than other Chinese styles (most of which have no ground fighting at all). The dog style techniques favor kicking and sweeping a standing opponent from the ground, and while there are some positional escapes, practitioners don't really grapple on the ground like Western wrestlers or Judo/Jiu Jitsu practitioners.
As an interesting side note, a few years ago China sent two competitors to fight in the Abu Dhabi Submissions Wrestling tournament (the most prestigious sub wrestling event in the world. Only the top wrestlers and grapplers qualify to compete). The two Chinese competitors were both Judo practitioners.

Nowadays, when done right we just call it Brazilian Jiu Jitsu...
or sometimes brazilian egomania jitsu ...
It's true. The BJJ guys are good and they have proven it over and over in the ring/NHB fights.
I have got to give them alot of credit.
