Chiyonofuji one of the greatest Sumo ever!
Thanks!
I love sumo...and I've stolen so much from it.
I remember watching Chiyonofuji's last match when I was in Taiwan. I didn't own a TV, so I went down the street from where I worked to watch it on a TV in the window of an appliance store.
There must have been 100 people crowded around the window on the sidewalk watching.
Not only one of the best at Sumo, I believe Chiyonofuji is one of the best athletes of modern times, in an any sport.
BA - You are welcome. I too love the art.
Tim,
I could not argue. Google search pics of him... his lower body is ripped beyond belief!
Speaking of Sumo, I went to the "US Sumo Open" yesterday in Little Tokyo in LA.
There were some great matches, and the inclusion of weight classes in International Sumo makes for some good pairings.
The heavyweight and open class champion was Byambajav Ulambayar, he was a competitor in professional Sumo in Japan for three years, and after retirement he's been three times world champion.
It was very interesting to see how much better he was than all the other competitors, although he was never ranked higher than Makushita in Japan.
The level of pro Sumo obviously runs very deep.
Nice! Been trying to get him up here for a seminar for quite some time, but have little interest from most people
I have thought about coming in and competing in the US Open sometime. Would be fun!
This was the throw of the day, it was all over ESPN today, with the caption: "Is this the greatest athletic feat in history?"
