Tim-

Curious - when you are competing in BJJ tournaments, can you tell what "internal" oriented throws/takedowns you have found to be high percentage in competition?

What do you do to practice them?

Well, some of the throws I use most often are variations of techniques from the "internal" styles, but there are similar throws in Judo, Jiu Jitsu and wrestling.

One throw I've used often is a variation of the inside leg reap (uchi mata in Judo), I usually throw with an over hook on the reaping side instead of standard gi grips.

I also have scored a number of takedowns with the propping ankle throw (I originally learned a variation of the throw in the Gao Baguazhang).

Another high percentage throw I use is the outside leg hook (a leg snake in Western wrestling) that I learned originally in Xingyiquan ("wildcat climbs a tree"). The throw has worked well for me in Sanshou as well.

I have also used the "lateral drop" wrestling throw many times when in an over/under tie up.

I think I became proficient at them mainly from lots of free sparring training.

Ok, sounds like common high percentage throws from judo/jujutsu - the propping ankle throw is my favorite. Thanks.
