My student Eric WInston is fighting for his first professional MMA title this Friday 3/28/14 for the Badbeat organization.
If anyone is interested and in the LA, OC area, tickets are available here:http://www.bammausa.com/mmaevents/
That's awesome.
How'd it go?
Went all five rounds, Eric lost the decision. It was a great fight.
Eric finished strong, but it wasn't enough for the win.
Lessons learned, back to training.
It will be good for him. Come back even stronger and wiser. Congrats for stepping up and having the heart to train and the balls to fight!
I don't think most MMA fans have the opportunity to really appreciate what a pro fighter goes through in order to compete.
Eric spends two or three hours a day training and sparring with his Muay Thai coach, the same amount of time training and sparring his clinch and ground game with me, several hours a week with his strength and conditioning coach and several more hours a week on his own doing separate cardio training. Six days a week.
For this fight, he also made a 30 lb. weight cut in six weeks after being out of the cage for about a year (he tore his labrum in his last fight last year and had it repaired surgically).
Being an MMA fighter is a really hard way to make a living.
Eric's record is now 5 and 2, with four wins by submission. I believe Jake is correct, men with Eric's talent and drive will take a big loss and learn from it.
