I have gotten a few recommendations to get an HCK gi to fit my more narrow frame (5'10" @ 155lbs). Do any of the Shenwu guys have direct experience with Howard Combat Kimonos, or could recommend?
I compete in Judo, and am looking for an understated BJJ Kimono that is tight, but still passes the rules for judo tourneys- the main worry is too many patches and other markings all over the Gi.
I have a Standard Single. use it all the time and it holds up good. The collar is real stiff on HCK's and I think Judo competitors frown on them.
Great for jiujitsu.
cool.
i was looking at that, maybe considering trying the double weave. The prices seem pretty good. I noticed one place was selling the unbleached single for $50, which if what i've heard about HCK is true, that's a pretty great deal.
I hate 'em
the korals ain't ever gonna be allowed on a judo matt at tourney, so I have to leave 'em out
Did you get waxed for the event?
man. good one. nothing more laughable than someone competing in judo or grappling.
I agree.
Everone knows Judo is just a sport.
Let's get back to talking about fantasy kungfu and make believe deadly fighting ability.
sports are for jocks
jocks already beat me up
hence, judo is stupid
I've had my HCK double weave for three years. Lots of people hate 'em, but I love mine. It's the best gi I've ever owned. It's stiff, hard to grab, and it fits like a second skin. I feel like I'm in armor.
The downside is that it's a pain to clean. It takes up most of the washer and seems to take forever in the dryer. Other than that it seems indestructible -no tears or fraying in three years of use.
There's a small HCK logo embroidered on left shoulder if you're worried about patches and markings.
You can reach Howard at 1 888 579 8406. He's in Gardena, CA.
Most of the guys are wearing Vulcans at Shen Wu these days. They're light and easy to clean, but I don't like the fit on mine. The pants shrank too much in the dryer as well.
Hope this helps.
Stop It Already,
"Get waxed yet" You are so funny! What a sense of humor!
Hey, I know, why don't you go tell your funny joke in a BJJ academy or Judo school.
You know how to tap, right?
i noticed that they have a 'judo' model too, i am wondering if that is a baggier fit than their regular models...
i know what you mean on the wash- i mave a very heavy mizuno. Sometime i do the pants and jacket separately...
i got a decent deal on an adidas comp gi, single weave.
not sure if i'd recommend it.
maybe as a summer gi? it's very light and comfortable, but doesn't feel that sturdy. It's hard to imagine one of the most popular brand sbeing easy to tear up, so hopefully it'll stay together. It's a good fit for my skinny ass. Probably not as tight as an HCK. I will save that purchase for later i guess.
