Hey all-
www.iswa.us
I was wondering if anyone on the west coast/ anyone in the shen wu crew had any experience competing in this organization.
i'll be competing as a novice this weekend. Really looking forward to it, but also really anxious/nervous.
San Da doesn't worry me, nor judo, but for some reason the prospect of getting suplexed by a wreslter is worrying me!
Anyways, I know they've had a few tourneys on the west coast already, was wondering if anyone would like to share their experiences.
perhaps?
Jason,
You've competed in San Da/San Shou? Any info on such in SoCal? Especially the Los Angeles area?
I looked into some local events and their "Sparring" events where all point sparring rules borrowed from TKD and Kenpo.
If you hear of any actual San da/San Shou in this area, I know a group of guys who would love to support the events and competitors.
Cheers,
Ahdoga

i don't know the west coast- i was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, 'where the west begins', but that's the farthest west I've ever been.
What i've noticed on the east coast, is that kung fu tournaments always have san da competitions, and the level of skill/comp/athleticism and rules vary greatly depending on the tourney.
There's one cool org out here- CACMA - http://mhkungfu.com/index.html
they do a san da thing that's much more open, stylistically/ruleswise.
guess my answer is keep your ears posted around the 'usual' kung fu community, and scout the tourneys that they have. Generally speaking, if you train hard and serious, like san da or mma style, you can walk in to any kung fu tourney, and not worry about being out of your league, whether that's good or bad... i dunno.
PS:
ISWA
pretty great. Most of the competitors were pretty cool.
It was pretty well organized, though we started a little late, i think that was more the fault of the competitors than anything else.
I didn't make weight, but it didn't matter, b/c there were only two of us in my weight class, so we both fought up. I think that he won the division anyways, i placed 4th.
Super fun, definitely learned a lot, got all kinds of things to get back home and work on!
Good work Jason.
Thanks for the reply. I will keep my ears open here in SoCal.
Glad to hear you had a great time at the ISWA event.
Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
Thanks.
Great job Jason!
you placed 4th out of 2?
congratufrickulations!
there were only 2 of us in the 145lb division, so we had to fight up at 160. There were thus more than two in the combined division.
