Archer you rock!!
Do they have a World Championship of Greco Roman, or is it purely collegiate?
Check out www.wrestlingsbest.com if you have not already.

Yes. They do have World Championships. I just trained a few weeks ago with a former world champion.

I am 40 years old. My amatuer wrestling days are over. I was a young folk/freestyle wrestler who depended highly on my physical attributes of speed and strength.

When I got older, I no longer had the speed to do quick leg attacks, because of age and a knee injury. Also, when my training started to focus more on combative training, dropping to a knee for leg attacks didn't seem efficient.

So, I put more focus in the "clinch". I started training with some greco wrestlers, doing judo, more focus on the clinching aspects of Muay Thai and doing my own research.

Now, being dominate in the clinch allows me to tie up most strikers with ease and keep good grapplers from taking me down.

The clinch is an area few know well, so I often have an advantage.

Great resources I've used are Wrestler's Syllabus(greco), Dennis Hall's 2 on 1 and over and under, Darrell Gholar, Randy Couture and Greg Nelson, just to name a few.

It's difficult to find Greco training. I say just do your own research and find a wrestler to train with.

these are some of the most athletic, courageous men anywhere.

I love ba gua xing yi etc. But this is something different. I've never met a practitioner of these arts that conveyed this kind of strength, power, balance, tenacity, endurance, courage and aggression. To me these are the qualities that are a prerequisite for succes on the mat, in the ring and in life. And high level wrestlers have them all in truckloads.

I have the privilege of training with some people in judo, who may or may not have given up on the Olympics, but are still top tens in their division in the US. Getting my ass handed to me by these individuals (many of which are women (i fight at 66kg)) over and over again have taught me more than kindergarten or college combined.

If you don't respect wrestling, in all it's many forms, you too will get your ass handed to you some day. Let's hope it's in a friendly mat situation, and not on your head on the concrete.

Thanks for the info Archer. Very true what you say about the clinch. Fortunately I have a great teacher or two who know what they are talking about so I have been working on it myself.
Cheers
Jake
