So where to start?? This has to be one of the best seminars I have ever been to, period. This was the first time these guys taught together outside of Brazil. The amount of info, the atitude of the teachers, not to mention the abilities of the teachers was truly second to none. We worked everything from clinch, to gi, to no gi etc. Few takedowns. Lots of Muay Thai elbows, knees, clinch, clinch escapes etc.
Silva and Nog had the more open, nicest, most humble attitudes considering these are the top two fighters in the world right now (okay, Fedor is number one, but come on....). No ego, and suprisingly soft and gentle in their execution. Each one came around to everyone and made sure they were doing stuff properly, working with us, and even sparred / rolled with some people.
The techniques were excellent, and flowed together smoothly. Obviously everything was aimed at MMA since that is what they do, but none the less the techniques were easily adaptable into anything anyone does. I have heard some criticisms in the past that these guys' grappling skills are nothing special, and I beg to differ. EVERY aspect of their game is tight. Gi work was VERY technical. The only thing they did not go deep into was "why" something worked. But they shared many little details and tidbits that they have found useful in their fights. Each guy said that they would only teach what has been proven to work for them in the ring. No theoretical stuff. No goofy moves that would not work. Just pure 100% sound techniques.
Rumor has it they are opening a gym in LA. They are going to Miami to teach a seminar next week, and will possibly be up here again in Oct. (another rumor floating around was that Josh Barnett will be doing a seminar up here soon too). They are also building a house down in Rio for people to stay at when they come train. They welcomed all levels and people to visit anytime we wish. Something I may consider.............when the flow allows it.
All in all a awesome, but drag ass tiring, weekend. I cannot stress enough how great these guys were, and all for a little more than $10 an hour!! And every night we went well over (Nog actually had to stop Anderson from teaching!!). Last night we trained until 10:30!! I am beat suffice to say. But one of the most memorable events I have been a part of.
