What do you guys think of the rubber guard for mma or jiu jitsu? Do you think it's good, bad or even dangerous? I know some people think you might blow out your knee trying it.
I've been working on my rubber guard recently and so far I like it a lot.
In mma I haven't really seen many fighters use it very successfully except for Aoki.
So what do you guys think? Do you ever use it? Or when people try and use it against you do you find it easy or hard to get away from?
I like it. But I have the hip mobility for it.
Some say it's attribute driven, yet like Bravo says..."kickboxing is attribute driven", so stretch".
In MMA, most people do it incorrectly or too late in the fight.
It's growing in popularity. It will become a more common thing soon.
rubbers are reliable, 89% of the time...
Thanks robert.
I'm glad I didn't start a topic on rear naked chokes.
WHAT! 89%? Now you tell me!!!!!!!
I Know Nick Diaz and Dean Lister have successfully used it in MMA. Nick caught Gomi with a Gogoplata from RG. It has its place, I dont use it much due to my flexibility, lame excuse I know.
I have had the great opportunity to train with Eddie Bravo twice in the last two months, and he is hands down one of the best teachers I have ever come across! Top notch instruction, attitude, and skill!
The Rubber Guard stuff seems okay if you can pull it off. To my advantage a lot of people assume because of my size, that I cannot pull it, but I can, I just am not very good at it.
To be honest some of his best stuff is Eddies 1/2 guard, spider guard, and general BJJ principles.
I highly recommend him!!
