Thanks, Jake.

I'd love to find more Sumo technical resources.

You and I both brother. I have a DVD from Finnish group. Not very technical, but it runs through a number of techniques. I have tried to get on some Sumo boards and they would rather talk about the latest fashion for mawashi then actual technique, strategy etc. Come to find out no one knows on those boards about the actual martial art of Sumo.

Tried to organize a seminar here in town with world champ Buyumba, but next to nothing interest wise.

I own just about every english language book I have found, but none talk very technical about technique, strategy, nor training.

Not sure I am seeing the ankle pick - kouchi, though.

I'd do a sumo seminar!!

10 second mark of the video.
Kit if you think you can get some decent interest I am more than happy to bring them up here!

Thanks!

That's what I mean by kouchi.

Am I missing it? At least the way I have always perceived it, an ankle pick is taking the ankle with the hand.

Now, ankle pick (with the hand) off of kouchi is a tried and true combo.

I do not speak that foreign devil tongue you do;) Sorry, I missed your term. In western wrestling the pick is with the hand, but here he is using the foot. Very common in CMA.

I get you. My confusion was with the use of the term "ankle pick" referring the use of the foot and not the hand.

I actually thought you meant the version where they scoop the foot up with the leg technique as shown, and then snatch the ankle with the hand to complete it. Not sure if they do that in Sumo, but they do in Judo.
