Park Bok Nam

Tim's Discussion Board: The Flame Room: Park Bok Nam

It seems like alot of people in the board have problems with Park Bok Nam. I would like to know your opinions on Park just for personal refernce. I know Bob#2 actually called him a fraud. I'm curious as to why? To me he seems to be great for beginers and beginers going towards intermediate levels.

I do have one major problem with him. His seminars seem to be geared towards the very wealthy and I think that is very mean and cruel to the working class. I agree that we must make ends meat, but $100 or more a lesson is just plain oppression and capitalism. There are many who do this, and its plain wrong. Martial Artists should really address this so that it can stop.

Does anyone else have any issues on Park Bok Nam?

Yes it sounds very pricey indeed to pay that much for an lesson. But I did like the exercises he gave in his books. To me definitly worth the price there.I find lot's of persons charge way to much for info that is indeed very basic. But if someone could teach me to do real chi expulsion beyond
that wich I am already capable I would do so.
Being poor sucks and it's hard to train with others who look down on you because of your
finances are not so great. But I still train
and absorb what I am priveledged to be able to.
And I do so thankfully.

I saw his demo in Modern Master 1 (http://www.eurekainternalarts.com/mmasters1.html) and he is as stiff as can be.

100 bucks a seminar is not much. That's all day and only that high if you're NOT a student.

How much is a seminar in any other form of MA or try massage therapy seminars, or yoga seminars/training...all about the same if not more.

People have this notion of "Free." where did this come from?

How much do you pay at say UCDavis or NYU? or even a degree seeking night school class?

If you higher a tech to fix your computer, furnace, do repair work on your house...80-120 an hour. Let's put things in perspective.

The same people who complain abut money seem to have it when it comes to things they really want....

The people who have a problems with Park are the same peole who don't practice. They do a form once and sit around and talk the entire session. Or just question every little thing instead of practicing.

Boo...

he's the man. most IMA practicioners don't even really know what they are looking at most of the time anyway. good for body? not as good for body? how do you know? as long as it looks ba gua-ish right? yea ok.

EXACTLY!

Some people think he's going to take them by the hand and spoon feed them the info. Not going to happen....

Many people go to collect forms and learn a piece of this system and that system and what they end up with is a Ba Gua mess.

And then say it doesn't work. Or give it up after one year and wonder why they have no fajing or ability or reflexive fighting. Or why when they fight it doesn't look like Ba Gua.

Everyone's talking Mixed MA. But they don't know what they're mixing and why?

Take an Undergrad degree...how long? 4 years. Masters? 2 years. Pa kua is the same. Most stop after 3rd grade.

nuff said.

Interesting comments on Master Park. Just like trying to identify what water tastes like by simply looking a glass, attempting to understand Master Park's Ba Gua by just looking at a video or watching him in a seminar without actually "tasting" it is difficult to understand or describe.
