From a psychological point of view, what do you think about teaching things like temperance, and discipline concerning other things in life in your classes, or if you had teachers, how did they approach it?

Im curious as to what self defense teachers have to say on this.

Hi Robert,

You answered your own question. I'm a martial arts teacher and MMA coach, I concern myself with teaching practical skills. The discipline required to become good at martial arts results in self-selection for those who have what it takes. I'm not my student's father, priest or counselor.

Having said that, no matter your physical prowess, if you are an azzhole you'll need to find a different academy.

YES!!!

I finally figured it out. I have been pondering this for a loong time now.

I used to be partial to this mentality but now i understand, and from much contemplation, i agree.
