tim,
i'm fairly new to this post so i hope i don't repeat any questions. i was wondering what your opinions were on age in relationship to training. i read that you have been injuried during competition. how has it changed your training? how does fighting effect your health now and in the future?

Hi Charles,
When I'm injured, I train around the injury as much as possible. I got a fairly serious ankle injury in Brazil, but with some therapy and an ankle brace I was able to start training and grappling after about a week or so. I tend to heal fairly quickly.

Since I am a martial artist, and especially since I teach martial arts for a living, I really have no choice but to train, spar and fight on a regular basis (that's what martial artist do). I would guess I'm in better shape than the vast majority of people now. I can't predict the future.

Hi Guys,

In addition I have found that I have to try and prevent injuries by using my brain more. I make sure I warm up and stretch, tap when I need to tap and rest when I need to rest. Although resting is very difficult when you have to teach two or three sessions in an evening.

As I am getting older I am more aware of the link between fighting and healing skills.
