Does anyone have any speed reaction training drills, tricks or concepts they would like to share?

An example is someone dropping a piece of paper between your fingers and you try to grab it anything like that and so on. Anything like that sort of thing.

Cheers

When I was child my father would always walk around at family event like bday parties with dollars bills of various denominations and tell people if the could catch it with their between their thumb and pointer finger they could keep it. No one ever caught the dinero! Until I got banned from his event when I would edge in my pinky to stop the fall and then grasp it. Luckily for me it took him awhile to figure out what I was doing.
This brings up a point. If you look at videos of Bruce Lee in demos of JKD he actually premptively moves before/ during his opponents move. He was uncanny with this.
With this in mind, and knowing the difference between speed(the physical act) and quickness( the ability to see with the mind and then physically act) a question comes to mind Mr. Fatboy.
What are you using this speed for ?

Their was a famous basketball player who used to be able to stack coins on his elbow(with his palm facing the sky and held back near his ear) he would then move his elbow and send his palm down to the ground, INDIVIDUALLY ! plucking up to 7 coins before they hit the ground.

Their is of course the "Pluck the coin from my hand Grasshopper" routine. Again I got banned with this activity from my father becasue I would hold my right hand out like I was gonna pluck the coin with it and then with my left hand in an upward strike slap his palm sending the coin up into air out of his palm and grasp it with my right.

speed and quickness are one thing but what about wisdom?

My instructors frequenntly talk about speed bag training for the hand/eye. The last strike they would make would be an uppercut hitting the bottom of the speed bag sending it straight up causing an immediate stop. Ever tried this, its not easy!

Another training trick I personally enjoy is using tennis balls ( I had to stop using hacky sacks because people complained about the welts!) and have your student with his back to a wall. Throw the balls in quick succession at different parts of their body. If they can duck/evade/block balls they can do the same with punches/kicks.
