personally, when i attack and move in a straight line, i dont really have much use for a box stance, but whenever i go somewhere to learn, the teacher usually tells me to keep a box stance opposed to keeping my feet lined up since i have a better foothold.

is this true, because it really conflicts with most of what ive read about xing yi.
