i was just wondering if anyone has any info or links on the six yoga's of naropa.

i havent really dug the internet yet for any info, but i figured i would ask around here first since i remember Tim mentioning something about g tummo yoga...

anyway, gtummo yoga is said to be one of the six yoga's of naropa, and since gtummo yoga interests me, i would like to be better acquainted with its brothers and sisters.

The guy says not to try it, but i am very interested in his breathing method, and i can see how it would clear the channels and the lungs,(dont smoke!)and invigorate especially the nerve centers under the arms and the hips and back, i believe this exercise is legit. looks extremely difficult, i tried the arm slapping the body thing and it really hurts. these exercises are truly amazing, and i plan on devoting part of my life to learning some of these exercises in the future! i became a huge believer in the healing effects of chi after i experienced it firsthand, I would really like to have a better understanding of it, and learn from the larger body of knowledge that is out there.

ive read a few books which im not going to name right now.

but if you look at alot of the old stuff like the damo set, and various exercises like the 5 animal frolic's that sort of thing and era. (lol, my vocab is horrible)

you see alot of self beating with various instruments like bean bags and various blunt and sometimes ive even seen slightly pointed objects, they promote this method as a why to achieve health, though it is very specific i would imagine, also sounds pretty dangerous if you dont know what you are doing.

also , if you look at the tibetan yoga exercise above, you notice this same kind of self beating, but in a different way.

the areas that are usually targeted for beating are areas where lymph nodes nerves and all that crap is exposed, and the beating usually follows a path down, or away from the heart.

anyway,

the interesting thing about it to me is the "opening channels" effect that it has on the body.

the whole "opening" and "closing" phenomena and how the wise men of old observed and applied this is very interesting, it is sort of like a mathmatical constant.

but anyway, yeah, there are other things like intent, and stuff that if overlooked, will lead to you just wasting your time.

alot of time, meditation, stances, or various other ways to develop this kind of body awareness is overlooked, i think this is because most fighters nowadays are not concerned with meditation, because they see no application for fighting. thats fine. but just take into consideration the benefits of modern first aid.

in the hayday of meditation, there was no sophisticated(as far as i know) equipment to quell severe wounds, aside from acupuncture, massage herbology, bone setting etc.

so martial artists of those days imo, used meditation not only for fighting, but to heal themselves in times of mental and physical anguish and injury.

im not surprised to see how modern day doctors and scientists are baffled at the effects of meditation, maybe if meditation was taught as a prerequisite to a phd things would be alot better off!lol. i am also not surprised when i hear that ancient ways of healing are still viable and valuable practices to this very day! im not saying i fully understand, but i know for a fact that most of these healing methods come from pure self introspection, body awareness also known in cma as "listening"(genious btw)learned from various states of meditation, i.e. yoga, chi kung etc.

i was reading something the other day about the body having the innate ability to do a sort of seek out and repair action within itself, but people have lost touch with these innate abilities.

meditation, i feel, can revive these abilities, if you try hard enough. how hard, is the question.lol

rant, off...
