Time for a Quote Thread! Everybody dig out your quotes, fire 'em up and pass 'em around...

"Even more than one's art, the willingness to put one's self to the test is the defining moment of a martial artist who is really looking for the core reason why he is there in the first place. Without this willingness - curiosity if you will - there is no growth, no evolution and like any organism, one's interest will run a short course and then abandon the mission for a less resistant path." (Eric Knauss).

"You don't learn the martial art (which is only an illusion), you learn about yourself." (Scott Sonnon)

"Good discipline is the kind of burden that sails are to a ship." (?)

"There are actual guys who think that all they want to do is go fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. They think they will feel whole, or something like that. That's just absolutely ludicrous. Come on. Is that going to be your badge of courage, that you walked in there and got your ass kicked? You know what I mean? It is ludicrous." (Tank Abbott)

"Why this timidity? It is unworthy of a noble mind. This cowardice is beneath you, don't give in to it. Shake off your weakness. Stand up now like a man."

"... Fighting is something natural for the human being and learning how to use your skills in combat is part of the traditional kung-fu but it’s important that a teacher also teaches how to avoid fighting, In a way, by learning how to fight we also learn the value of not fighting. self-control is very important. I would strongly advise not to intellectualise the art. Kung fu can be intellectualised but the real practise is what is important. It takes more patience and hard work and less words. Finally, as master Wang Xiang Zhai said, ‘he who learns from me in an original way will benefit, but he who always copies me mechanically will suffer’.”
Li Jian-yu in Secrets of Internal Kung-fu, May, 2001 issue

If "fighting is something natural for the human being" then everyone would be off to "the Gathering" on a daily basis like Mayhem, I mean Meynard. Such gatherings would be held as family events!

Just turn on TV and look at all the people psychologically marred, physically maimed and killed from fighting. That's all you need to learn the value of not fighting. We are all BORN with the ability to create and take life, who needs to take a MA to understand and respect that???

We all learned everything we need to by the time we were 5 years old. We all know how to avoid fights by that age.

CROOKED BEAT- Paul Simonon

POLICE AND THIEVES - Junior Murvin

As Meynard and his Bodhisatvas know, until you remove yourself from both categories, there will always be police, and thieves.
