Black belt/cotton or satin

Hi Tim,
I'm a brown belt in San Soo Kung Fu, soon to be a black belt. What is the difference between cotton and satin belts? I've seen some very frayed black belts. Which are these: cotton or satin? Thanks

I've never owned a satin belt, so I can't compare them.
