Hello Tim and All,

I just got my hands on a copy of John Peterson's more recent book, The Miracle Seven. If any of you don't know he is a Atlas/Liederman style fitness trainer who personally started learning the Atlas program when he was still a kid. Needless to say he is 50 now and has a lot of great stuff to say about the no weights approach to achieving optimum strength and body sculpting. His books are definitely a better bargain then the Matt Furey money machine products :-)

And yes, I did learn some new things that aren't in my very used copy of Dynamic Strength or all the internet articles on Furey's Royal Court.

Body sculpting?!!!

Isn't that what Michelangelo did at the end of the Fifteenth Century?

Hi Tim

Thanks for the link and this board

I'm an keen reader of your books and really like your definition of whole body power as outlined in "Effortless Combat Throws".

If I may ask, what are your thoughts on such muscle control techniques in regards to the concept and practise of whole body power?

I suppose to focus my question - it seems to me that these techniques are more along the lines of the sectional power of some CMA, so what would you recommend to enable coordinated use without undue tension?

Hope that makes sense

Dave

Hi Dave,
Good question. Actually, if you go on the Maxalding website and download "Muscle Control," the authors give a lengthy explanation how the skills of muscle control teach the practitioner to only contract the needed muscles in the correct sequence, while leaving all other muscles relaxed. Actually, the ability to totally relax the muscles is the foundation of the system. Interesting stuff.

I must say that that is one weird website and
that Maxick guy is a freak. His definition is incredible for back then. And to think he's not juiced up and a roid-head like most of our professial and serious amateur athletes today. Take a good look at the isolation of the abdominal muscles--that's incredible. I would liken this guy to a yogi or something based on his ability to control every facet of his body.

Check out Brooks Kubik and his Dinosaur Training for a serious look at lifting weights to help build power and strength.

Thanks Tim,

I did get some downloads and had a read. It is interesting stuff. I have an "external" training background and have been investigating the irradiation concepts as put forward by Pavel. The coordinated increase in power is noticable but I'm having a problem with relaxing in an efficient manner in between applications. Then again Pavel put it something like, an elite athlete is discernible by the ability to go from complete relaxation to complete tension and back again in a minute amount of time. Something to strive for.

Dave
