Hi I've found this site when I was just surfing the web -
http://m.samharris.org/blog/item/the-pleasures-of-drowning
I really like'd The article about selfdefense
Both articles are excellent.
I particularly liked Matt Thornton's quote in the BJJ article: "in general, we want to avoid going to the ground in a fight. However, the best way to ensure that you will end up on the ground is to never train there in the first place."
And by extension, the best way to ensure you'll get taken down in a fight is to never learn realistic standing wrestling skills.
I'm often perplexed that so many practitioners of martial arts fail to grasp these concepts.
I think its a mix between ego, well mostly ego - like the guy in the video in the article and fear i guess. My first encounter with real resistanse was when I tried judo - I had done karate before and even if there was sparring in karate it was nothing compared to grappling - suddenly I was picked up, slammed in to the mat and got into a kesa- gatame where the Guy who slammed me was putting all of his weigth
On to my chest - and I can honestly say that I was really happy that I was in a dojo and not in the "street" and when I've gotten over the chock from the hands-on- approach it was really fun
Thinking that its gotta be easier today to get people to start grappling with the ufc and all - or?
Just wear kneepads 24/7
Kneepads?
After searching the web about your remark about kneepads it lead me to the conclusion that you think Iīm homosexual.
Sorry to disappoint you Robert but Iīm not, But, hey, donīt get sad, If you live close to the westcoast (SF) I think there are many opportunities for you to meet..well.. new friends.
I wish you the best Robert and yeah, donīt forget your kneepads
so right, Tim!
Tobbe, what? lol.
Actually I was referring to going to the ground in a fight. We are used to mats, but on pavement your knees are vulnerable especially if you like to shoot.
Ok - sorry my bad - I didn't get it so I googled sites from the states and the connection between the two came up several times
Lol. No prob tobbe.
