Actually, I don't feel safe. I'm on crutches at the moment and feeling quite vulnerable. Though, I am happy most the time. I do prefer my larger quantity of poor friends -- Less bagage - more reality if you must know the truth. Inflated ego? Probably. "Many, many, many, many, pitiable complexes?" More than you could know. See the stars in the sky? That's just the surface of how many complexes I have. (also a few multiple personalities - one of which is a sniper for the SEALS.)

I know both Robert and Bob#2. They're entirely two different people. I've trained with both of them.

Before Torsten visited Shenwu he visited me and Robert was there. So you understand, this is where Robert get's his opinion about Torsten. Robert is not unschooled in the martial arts and understands what he sees. His long time teacher is probably the finest Pentjak Silat fighter I've met. Suffice it to say, he was not impressed by Torsten.

You have to understand that after training with Tim Cartmell your standards get a little higher than usual. When gauging martial artist ability to teach and fight Tim Cartmell is the baseline standard of excellence that I go by. Very, very few can meet and even fewer can exceed that standard. I believe that Robert and Bob #2 feels the same way.

Don't get upset that we don't think that highly of Torstens ability. He is really not in Tim Cartmells league. Torsten himself acknowledges this fact.

Torsten is good at what he does and is a very nice man. In terms of comparitive ability Torsten is high school level at best while Tim is a multiple phD. That's just how it is. There are a whole lot of martial artist in the elementary level and they are Torstens audience. Thats fine because Torsten has something to teach.

You need to accept that Torsten is not the big fish in the pond.

I'm saying this to you because I've done my comparitive analysis and have trained with some of the best. I could give you a list of people I've trained with if you like. In my experience there are only two or three other men that I will put in the same league as Tim as far as having both superior teaching and fighting ability with a very broad and comprehensive understanding of martial arts.

Whatever Torsten does is still under developed and maybe one day it will be something. It certainly is interesting.

I'm not upset at all {no hard feelings guys}..I have never met Torsten.
I just wanted to identify where, and to what reason , all the "riffing" was coming from.

If you say that you have trained with some of the best in the world, then we have something in common.

It was very unfortunate that we could meet last time I was on the west coast..However, If you are still interested...I would be happy to take some time to meet you next time I'm in your neck of the woods..I have heard good things about you too.

I would also like to check out your shen wu school but only with Tim's permission..

I said he was a nice guy and gave him credit for actually sparing - something most IMA teachers run away from.

Go back and read my orignal post - the one with the capital "R". There's nothing disrespectful in it. And to my knowledge - not a single student of Tim's has spoken disrespectfully or made fun of Torsten on this board. They've all said he's a nice guy with heart (though some like you, who post here and are not students may have).

Funny, really... Here's a guy with the name "Wuxing Warrior" accusing someone who actually used their REAL name as being a mythical person.

hmm,where to start?

Well,it seems that everyone has calmed down,(or sobered up)...

First of all, my name IS Mike Strong. Strong is the cheezie stage-name that I used during my stand-up comic days...

I was B.K.Franztis'private chef, and it was during that time that I really concentrated on my comedy; and I could never thank Kumar enough for affording me that opourtunity.

I would wake up at around 10:00 in the morning , fix the big man breakfast, clean up,and go practice my nei gung untill it was time for lunch; clean up, do the shopping, make dinner, clean up; and then drive into The City to get some stage time...

...I would try to tip-toe back into the house around three or four in the morning, but BKF would always catch me, and ask me to go over the latest chapter of his book with him. I never recieved any private lessons; although I did get a lot out of the early morning editing sessions...

I don't know Su Dong Chen, but I have seen his video clips and heard good reports about him, and on that basis I suggsted that my friend Fabian go study with the guy. Fabian is not my student,(I am not a teacher, and I don't have any students) he is just a guy who asked me to teach him Hsing I ,and when I showed him Pi Chuan, San Ti and some other Zhan Zhuang, HE ACTUALLY PRACTICED WHAT I SHOWED HIM!!!

...and we would play around at Rou Shou.

Now, as far as Torsten goes, I think that he has some very special pieces of the puzzel,and it would behoove serious researchers and seekers to leave their jock-straps at the door and endevour to get with his thing!

Torsten is more than a "one trick poney", he is a three or four trick poney,(depending on how you break it down).

Torsten never hit me with more than 10%power,and I doubt if he hits anyone in a workshop or meeting with more than that...

Torsten has a bad back and went through surgery for it. He shouldn't be able to do what he does, but when he does his practice the pain goes away and he moves and teaches with Grace.

Is he a seasoned fighter?

... no.

Can I learn what he has to offer and apply it to my practice?

... yes!

In the same way I would ask:

Could Tim Cartmell throw me?

... not a chance.

could I check my ego long enough to learn about how he does throws, and gain from it?

... yes!

I was working as a baker and practicing about 5 hours a day when I first went on stage to read a couple of poems. My mouth went dry,and my heart started pounding so hard that I was sure everyone could hear it. I broke out in a fop sweat and I'm sure that I sounded like a wimpering little girl...

Here I was , this tough guy martial artist and public speaking turns me into a trembeling wreck?

I was already incorperating bread baking into my Gung Fu practice; so I thought, why not this public speaking thing?

Torsten crossed my path and I'm a better human being, and a better martial artist for it.
