Hey tim, do you think its a good idea to have coffee or soda before training? Apparently some people say that caffeine will give you a kick, which will be good for training. What are your thoughts regarding drinking tea, coffee etc?

I've read that a small amount of caffeine before working out is good.

I wouldn't use too much caffeine in general though.

Coffee is found to protect against alcoholic cirrhosis, http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn9330&feedId=online-news_rss20

From the article: "People drinking one cup of coffee per day were, on average, 20% less likely to develop alcoholic cirrhosis. For people drinking two or three cups the reduction was 40%, and for those drinking four or more cups of coffee a day the reduction in risk was 80%."

I guess the Coffee industry has the right connections... the media is also reporting that tea is not really all that good for you now!

Odd.

In the ancient world colors of food were believed to give away the organ that they affected. Browns and orange colors affect the liver. red, the blood etc... As well the shapes also had signifigance. Cabbages=the brain, grapes, which resemble the colon were good for the colon. Coincidentally the ancients viewed the colon as the large serpant and the brain the small serpant. what affects one also affects the other. Asparagus, well, use your imagination! Ginseng looks like a little human and hence is beleived to affect the whole body. In the west the closest root shaped like that of ginseng is the mayflower or mandrake. Curiously in the west this root is considered poisonous and creates "visions".
Back to coffee.... in small doses it may provide pep but is considered empty as far as actual caloric energy goes. Fruits give the longest burn to candle so to speak. Hope this helps.
