Hi Tim

In the book "Nei Jia Quan" you say that the best book about Xing Yi striking are "Championship Fighting" with Jack Dempsey. I just wonder if you had any suggestions about a dvd on the subject if one just want to learn the mechanics in how to strike ( there is five kinds of punches?) and not all the animalforms

Best Regards
Tobias

I can't think of a dvd I'd recommend off hand, there are a lot of boxing dvd's on the market though, you might start there.

I have a DVD by Mike Patterson that's supposed to be only on the 5 Elements, but in fact it goes on to demonstrate an 8 movement linked form, and has a lot of excellent stuff on applications and two man drills. i recommend it highly.

He has a number of other DVD's, and he's just come out with one that sounds really good; I'll probably get it. Here's what they say about it:

Mike Patterson and PHK Enterprises is pleased to announce we have just released the first in a new video series entitled the "Real Training Series" entitled Internal Force Dynamics Vol. 1. The subject matter contained on the video is the entire series of "fah jin" shaking exercises (all nine hand exercises and four foot exercises) utilized to develop internal striking force.

The video utilizes digital slow motion and picture in picture technologies to create a remarkable educational portrayal of these exercises. The video is menu driven and the resolution is fantastic. The completed product is extremely revealing of detail and nuance.

You can find the video hsing-i.com in the on-line store in the "Internal Exercises" category.

Me again.. that last sentence seems a little confused. Their URL is www.hsing-i.com. However, you may want to turn your speakers off to avoid the incredibly annoying virtual yappy broad who welcomes you there.

The video in question can be found at

Hi
Thanks both for info

I´ve looked for dvd´s with "Dempsey - style" on them and the only one I´ve come up with is Dempsey Style Boxing - with Ken Pfrenger.

Has anyone seen it? Is it any good?

Jerry, You´re right - Her voice is really annoying
The dvd you´re talking about - The five elements- is that the "Hsing I Five Force Element Training"?

Best Regards
Tobias

"The dvd you´re talking about - The five elements- is that the "Hsing I Five Force Element Training"?

Hmm. I'm not quite sure. Don't know what else it would be, but the one I have is just called "PHK Enterprises Internal Martial Arts Reference Series, Hsing I Five Elements"
On the disk, it says Hsing I Series, Hsing I Five Elements.

They mentioned in the blurb about it that it was their oldest one and doesn't have voice overs and other fancy stuff, and they'd be redoing it pretty soon.
Anyway I've found it very useful.

If you want DVDs about Xingyiquan check out the series by Di Guo Yong offered by Plum Publishing.
http://www.plumpub.com/sales/dvd/dvdcoll_xydiguo.htm

"Di Guo-Yong (born 1948) is from LuXian County, HeBei Province. He learned to play Shaolin Chang Chuan and HeBei Xing Yi Chuan from Zhao Zhong in 1963 and ChuoJiao FanZi Boxing from Wu Bin in 1973. He is a disciple of Zhao Zhong (grandstudent of Li CunYi). In 1975 he learned Chen-style BaGua Zhang from the famous teacher Li Zi Ming. He also studied ChuoJiao FanZi Chuan from Wu BinLou. He is now president of the BeiJing Wu Shu Research Association (XingYi Division) and a national Wu Shu judge.
Xing Yi is one of the great boxing forms of China. Based on the theory of the 5 elements it takes fundamental movements and logically builds toward fighting skills. This form of Xing Yi is very clear and well presented. The movements are broken down and nicely demonstrated. Di Guo Yong is a well known and widely respected Xing Yi instructor."
