great shot as promised of Tim getting thrown on the ground by the angry girl character. I'm afraid that this show is only going to be on the air for about half a season. Kudos to someone for trying to show Internal martial arts as fighting arts. And way to go Tim!

What is Russel Wong's martial arts background?

By Tim on Monday, March 31, 2003 - 12:53 pm: Edit Post

Thanks Jason.

Russel practiced Tiger Claw in New York for a number of years, among other things. The last few years he's been going to Beijing to study with Wu Bin, Jet Li's Wushu coach.

Alright you bunch of Nancies!

I watched the Pilot last night. Holy where did all the T and A come from with Bagua??? Personally, the Betty liked it. The T and A, not the martial arts. (Although, I'd let the skinny Brunette chick wrestle me and hang out for a long time in top mount. Come here honey, the Betty will show you how to stall in a Jiu Jitsu match...)

I thought friggin' Dong (you know the old man) - didn't have one, and now all these Beverly Hills 90357 (whatever the F*cj) all show up to walk a little circle with half shirts and tight little booties. Nice Uncle Tim, I'm sure that was just like when you were training in China. The only thing I've seen in the Shen Wu school are a bunch of sweaty guys, like big Dave or big Ron. Let me tell you, they're no eye candy on a hot day. (Meynard, maybe...)

I don't know, I don't think Luo is as much as a hottie as the little girlie with all the anger management issues or the little blondie with the cornrows in her hair. ("Like, oh my god! Is that your hand grabbing my a$$ or are you setting me up for a Snake throw???") If Luo looked like that little blondie he'd have more students. Hey, don't get me wrong, Luo's not an ugly guy but I don't want to see him in Spandex and a half shirt. Wow, I just upset my stomach just thinking about that...

Well, as far as the show goes, the only thing of real value I see is that I want to sleep with the Sifu's ex-wife. (Set this up for me when I'm in town in a couple of weeks). Other than that, just bring those punk a$$ students from the show down and the Betty will show them what real pressure is all about. (Just the chicks, and they have to be naked.)

REMEMBER, THERE'S ONLY ONE BETTY, BIG BALLED BETTY!!!

my favorite lines:

"will really be able to fight eight people at once?"

"Theoretically"

Hey TIm, you need to open a school closer to hollywood, then maybe we could get some chicks like those to train, We'll send meynard out with a book of french poems, I'm sure he'll bring'em back by the score! So hey if they ask you to come on set again, you need to tell those girls that you know a guy who can tutor them!
nice job, It's only a shame that those chicks are actors, and not martial artists!
among my favorat lines are:
Luo: "are you alright"
Guy in blue shirt: "yea, yea, i'm fine"
Matt and I busted a Gut!!

The actors need to get some more Ba Gua lessons.

Bring them back to Shenwu for more lessons. Please no more wushu crap.

Move the production back to Los Angeles. Teach them real Ba Gua fighting.

Show those girls how to punch a bag so that they don't look like they're doing tae bo. Get rid of the dumb hand wraps.

Those are good ideas, Meynard, 'cause it would show progress being made (imagine if such a show lasted several seasons & there was no progress... for it would be like they were just walking in circles all that time... hey, wait a minute... what am I saying?... I've got to stop & think this one through...). If Tim could be a permanent & well-listened-to advisor for the show (as Kam Yuen was for "Kung Fu" starring David Carradine), then something good may come of this show.

I had mixed feelings about the show... some parts were hokie, some parts were interesting (like some of the family stuff). Of course, I liked the pretty gals. If those in charge of this show would back away from showing hokie stuff in subsequent episodes, then it may stand a fighting chance in the ratings... but then again...

Here it ran against a Jackie Chan movie. Jackie Chan, man! As much as I like Tim & support his getting some recognition, I was still tempted to skip the premiere of "Black Sash" for the Chan flick that I've already seen once (it was truly an ethical dilemma for me -- sorry Tim... if it's any condolence, I bit the bullet & watched "Black Sash").

I believe that this show will bring some recognition for the art if nothing else (whether what the audience sees is real or really bad); of course, immitators/con-men will pop up all over the place to "teach" the ignorant who want to learn, but with some good luck, some of these wannabe Ba-Gua-Zhang students will find their way to excellent instructors such as Tim.

Good luck, Tim!

I thought the pilot episode lost it when the teacher swings in on a cable and kicks but A-Team style on the guy who killed the girl's father. Why doesn't my sifu do that kind of stuff for me?

Here's a show with so much potential & they just blew it. I thought it was worse than Martial Law (at least the pre-Arsenio episodes). But I may give it another chance even though it is on opposite Malcolm in the Middle which has much better fight scenes.

Hey tim, once this guy beat up my dad in a bar, would you get him for me?

One of my buddies -- who thought that "Black Sash" was one of the best premieres that he's ever seen -- reminded me today that often series premeires are pretty poor (as they try to touch all bases for a wide audience while pleasing production-company execs).

While MASH & Magnum PI had good movie starts, both of their season premieres were weak (downright hokie at moments) -- yet both ended up as pretty decent & long-running series.

Maybe there's hope that those in control of "Black Sash" will focus in on the down-to-earth aspects & leave the hoki-ness behind.

My landlord loved it.

I already told Tim how the show could be improved by the addition of a swarthy filipino who does xing yi. :-) ehem!!!
