Wrestling & hsing I

Tim's Discussion Board: Xing Yi Quan: Wrestling & hsing I

Im thinking about studying Shan xi hsing I soon. I'm a big fan of Shuai jiao. The hsing methods being taught will be San ti, forms, tu na, and accompanying nei gong. In other words mostly forms and single person work.

I already have a nei gong/ba gua background. What benefits to wrestling has anyone studying both hsing I and wrestling noticed? More plainly what benefits does hsing I have for those that love stand up wrestling?

Grounding, balance...that's about it.

Who are you training with Timothy?

Lots of takedowns and throws in Xing Yi. If you are looking to improve your Xing Yi, wrestling will do that. If you are looking to improve your grappling, Xing Yi has little to offer. I would just grapple.
