Hi.

i've seen 2 ways of doing pi quan footwork. and im just wondering what everyone does or if the differet footwork is connected different style? or even if 1 is more correct?

well u'll have to excuse my attempt at computer pictues :D

type 1.

basically you step directly straight ahead.
1. left santi stance
2. left foot steps forward landing toe turned out
3. right foot steps forward to become leading foot (right santi stance)
i've seen this one were a loong r forward step and then a follow up step wif left foot to regain correct length and also without it. just straight right step forward into correct santi solid.

type 2.

basically instead of moving straight directly forward you still face and go forward but you sort of side step forward to the side and then step back on the original line into santi ..

1. left santi
2. step left foot forward and to the side
3. r foot goes next to left foot but is off the ground
4. right foot goes back to the "line" ur were originally on but this time a right santi
5. the left foot follows up heel back on the line, and toes turned out. finished in a right santi

i hope u can understand my question and english.

thank you

I have seen it done both ways also. The straight forward step through seems to be the most common. It teaches you to drive into the opponents center. The side stepping(oblique)stepping pi chuan teaches you to dodge the incoming force. They are both correct and both should be practiced. However, thats just my opinion. You should follow the advice of your Sifu =0)
