There is a set called Xing Yi Shi er Lu Tan Tui
which means Twelve routines of Xing yi elastic kicks. Was this added in from the moslem style tan tui? (had to think long and hard to come up with this)Do you know what kind of kicks are in it? Thanks

Xing Yi Shi Er Lu Tan Tui was a set created by Che Yizhai for basic training. It is a combination of the standard Shaolin Tan Tui set modified around Xingyiquan principles.

The set looks very much like regular Tan Tui, but done from the San Ti alignment.

Where can I find materials (books or videos) about Xing Yi Shi Er Lu Tan Tui?
Thanks,
Mauro.

Mauro,
I've only seen information on the set in Chinese books, there may not be any information available in English.

Dear Tim,
could you suggest me the titles and authors of these books?
Another question: why internal martial arts (and probably other kung fu styles) seem not to use roundhouse kick, reverse roundhouse kick and back spinning kick?
Thanks a lot.
Mauro.

Hi Tim,
do you kown the Mandarin Duck Kicks of Che style Xingyi Quan?
Which are the difference between this techniques and the Tan Tui routine? In your opinion which is the closest to Xingy Quan principles and body mechanics?
Thanks and best regards,
Mauro.

Mauro,
I've never seen the Mandarin Duck Kicks of Che style, so I can't tell you how they differ from Che's Tan Tui routine.

Most Internal styles are adverse to opening their centerline and turning their back to their opponents, so spinning back kicks are not favored.

I saw the Mandarin Duck and it was delicious! 1 small can of mandarin orange slices, 1 packet ocean spray craisins, some fresh herbs, 1 tbsp of cornstarch, and 1 nip of grand marnie. Throw all that together and roast til done. Yummy. You should also check out the duck foies gras.

In the Shang Xi-Video -CD-Set which is sold from www.chinafrominside.com one practionier shows these 12 kick routines. Interesting to see, it looks like
Shaolin Kicks done relaxed, not too hard to learn save a roundabout one, and fun to practice.

Hi Cris,
in the VCD set is contained also the Mandarin Duck Kicks Routine?
Thanks,
Mauro.

Hi Mauro,

no it isnt unfortunatly. If you find out where
one is able to see them, please share.
The VCD set is quite good and can be recommended; one sees many high-level-forms and some DAi style and learning the kick forms isnt that difficult from them.

Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris,
I've bought the Shanxi VCDs and the Shanxi Xingyi Quan book from Tadzio.
The Tantui form should be in the book.
On the Jarek's store I've read that both the Tantui both the Mandarin Duck routine are included in the VCDs...
I don't know if Tadzio and Jarek are selling the same product or not, but recently Jarek confirmed me that the VCDs contain only the MD routine.
I will be more precise when I will receive the materials from Tadzio.
Thanks a lot,
Mauro.

Hi Felipe,
could you help me to understand?
Both Tantui both Mandarin Duck are in the VCDs?
In which one is the MD routine?
Thanks a lot,
Mauro.

I just checked the set that Jarek sells. The 12th Tantui routine is called "Linking Mandarin Duck Kicks". It's basically a series of low toe kicks to the opponent's shins.

Mauro:

I just checked again:

The Tan Tui routines are in the CD # 5, AVSEQ 5. The routines are exactly the same shown in the book "Complete Xingyiquan". I even think it's the same guy doing them.

The Mandarin Duck Kicks routine is in the CD # 7, AVSEQ 2, at 8 minutes, 27 seconds (On my media player)

Felipe,
thanks a lot for the information.
Where you bought your VCDs?
I hope the VCDs from Tadzio and from Jarek are the same.
Only Tadzio can check if in his VCDs there is the Tantui routine.
Regards,
Mauro.

Mauro:

Felipe,
Thanks a lot.
I'm waiting for the VCDs and I hope they are the same from Jarek.
Only a techical question: I practise Xin Yi Liu He Quan; do you think the Tantui and Mandarin Duck kicks are compatible compatible with Xin Yi body mechanics?

Bye,
Mauro.

People have been refering to several xing yi instructional videos here. For those who have seen them, can you offer some opinion as to the value of these videos for teaching fighting principles and applications? Are they more just a forms demonstration?
