I have a question that I was hoping Tim could answer. I understand that you studied with Hsu Hong Chi and I was wondering what kind of weight distribution that he taught you for san ti shi and doing the five elements.
Jim
While doing san-ti Hsu taught that you have 100% on the rear foot and no weight on the front.
He also recommended that when first learning it you should hold one side for 3 breaths and then switch to the other foot for 3 more breaths, then switch for 3 breaths , etc....
At least this is the way he would teach it while he was at J. Price's school on his US visits.
Thanks Bill. That is the same way I learned it from my teacher who originally studied with Dave Nicoletti and Vince Black. In my reading I had come across a lot of other weight distributions and I never seemed to come across the 100% on the rear foot so I thought I would get some feedbakc from other people who studying with Hsu Hong Chi.
i myself prefer 100 rear foot but my teacher teaches it as 60 rear 40 front
James,
Hsu Hong Chi taught me a couple different weight distributions for San Ti Shi, the first being 100% weight on the back foot.
Thanks for the info Tim. What other weight distributions did Hsu Hong Chi teach you? What kind of reasons did he give (if any) for the different weight distributions?
When I practice San Ti Shi I try to do the 100% on the rear foot and the 60/40 split to get a little bit of both in. Are there any advantages developmentally in doing one weight distribution over the other?
By the way, sorry about the retarded grammar and spelling on my second post. English is my first and only language even if the above does not reflect it.

I am taught to do 100 rear foot, but also, I am taught that it can also be 100 in the mind 90 in reality.
