The amount of emphasis on standing practice

Tim's Discussion Board: Xing Yi Quan: The amount of emphasis on standing practice

I bought the xingyi neigong book a few years ago and the section on standing post exercises made very little sense to me.After spending the last few years trainin in wing chun, xingyi, yiquan i have found this section of the book to be probably the most complete discussion and reasoning of standing post.My question is how much emphasis is placed on the meditative aspects of standing post, when training in China, Taiwan etc.Wang Xiang Zhai stated yiquan to be a no mind art, and great emphasis was placed on standing by most of the "greats".Most of the insructors i have encountered in England place very little emphasis on standing (for less than convincing reasons), i was wondering about anyones experiences in the East.( i'm off to China tomorrow)

John Mitchell,
The amount of emphasis on standing practice will most often depend on the style you choose to practice, and also on the preferences of the individual teachers.

Most teachers of Internal styles will advocate some stance keeping. Most teachers of Xingyiquan (and especially Yiquan) will advocate a great amount of standing.
